I was born and grew up in a Jewish family that lived in a suburb of New York City. After graduating college in upstate NY I worked in the computer programming field. Not long after marrying Stephanie in 1982 we moved to Jacksonville, FL and began to raise our family. Stephanie and her friends (with the help of the Holy Spirit) led me to St. Andrew’s, a small church in Jacksonville much like St. Jude’s, and it was there that I came to know the Lord Jesus. I was baptized in 1991 and graduated from Virginia Theological Seminary in 2001, serving churches in Jacksonville, FL and Greenville, SC before coming to St. Jude’s in 2011. It has been my privilege to serve here since. Stephanie and I have three grown children, three grandsons, two dogs and a cat. Favorite theological quote: “[God’s] blessings unceasingly distil to us from heaven conducting us like streams back to the fountain” (John Calvin). Scripture verse: “What matters most is faith being worked out through love” (Galatians 5:6)
I was born in Walterboro, SC in 1970, and raised in Statesboro, Georgia. I am 1994 Graduate of Georgia Southern University. I have been blissfully married for 21 years to Frankie Marsh and blessed with two children, Taylor, a Senior, and Tanner, a Sophomore, both at CPA. We live on a family farm in Islandton and attend church at the Walterboro Church of God, where I co-teach a Teen Sunday School Class, work with the Youth Group, teach Children’s Church on a rotating schedule, as well as, cut the church grass periodically during the summer months with a group of other dedicated church members. I was hired by The Rev. Jim Lewis, and then, Senior Warden, Martie Hooker in February of 1995. I left St. Jude’s in October 1997 and rejoined them in September 2000, when Taylor started 4K and Tanner 2K at First baptist WEE Program.
David Martin – Organist/Choir Director Somewhere lurks a picture of me at age five years and a toy piano strewn with cardboard rolls from paper towels and toilet tissue. This was my first pipe organ! I have always loved church, organ music, and history. The result has been a bi-vocational career. While teaching Middle School history since 1982, I have served two churches as Organist/Choirmaster. For five years, I was musician at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Charleston. In 1998, I became Organist/Choirmaster at St. Jude’s.
My professional development includes: BA, The College of Charleston; MAT, The Citadel; Reading Specialist Credentials, SC Dept. of Education; Certificate, Leadership in Pastoral Music, Diocese of SC; and private organ studies with Sarah Younker and William Gudger.
My entire life has been grounded in Christian worship as I was a PK (Preacher’s Kid). Although raised Southern Baptist, there were strong Roman Catholic, Presbyterian, Quaker, Lutheran and Anglican/Episcopal influences in my youth.
Susan Tilley and I married in 1987 and she has been my faithful partner or “two for one.” Susan is a music teacher and a true asset with choirs. Serving at St. Jude’s is a wonderful fit for our family. Our three sons – Knox, Peter and Nicholas – were baptized, confirmed, and indelibly shaped by St. Jude’s. It is tempting to list favorite moments from the past. I would prefer to say that the “here and now” are my very favorite moments at St. Jude’s. My favorite composers include Franck, Faure, and Bach. My nickname in high school was Car Driver. Did I mention being owned by two Chihuahua watchdogs – Sam and Petey?
